What Does it Take to Be a GREAT Manager?
A Heart in the Right Place and the Training to go Where it Leads You.
Club management is full of people with their heart in the right place. Many of these people proved themselves to be excellent laborers and came up through the ranks to become managers of teams. Some had little or no formal training along the way and many are still lacking basic management skills. They have the right heart, but lack the training to go where their heart is leading them.
The Meaningful Work Seminar is offered to give these potentially great managers the tools and the understanding to go where their heart is leading them and to be successful when they arrive. Author Patrick Lencioni describes meaningful work as work that makes sense and is measurable, "You need to know that your job matters and makes a difference".
Meaningful work is not just about employee engagement. It’s about employee satisfaction. According to a recent report by the Society for Human Resource Management, a survey conducted by Paul Fairlie Consulting, an organizational research and consulting firm, found that meaningful work drives commitment, retention, and discretionary efforts above leadership, supervisors, co-workers, pay, and other factors thought to contribute to employee engagement. In fact, employees were 41% more likely to become interested and absorbed in their work if they had jobs that helped fulfill their life purpose. And, if employees had jobs that helped them achieve a life goal, they were 34% more likely to work beyond what was expected, while 52% were more likely to feel committed to their employer if their personal values were realized in the job they do.
Overall, the report showed that meaningful jobs had the second highest correlation – just below autonomy and recognition – with high work satisfaction, commitment, retention, and low burnout.
The Meaningful Work Seminar is delivered to ensure your managers understand the How and Why of their role in providing meaningful work for your staff. The seminar is a full day, ( 6 hours) of fast paced learning with individual and group exercises.
Each attendee will receive a workbook and resource list for follow up training.

Understanding The WHY
Ever wonder how some people always seem to be excited about their work, their hobbies, their life in general? It starts with understanding their WHY, that space that connects who we are and what we do. In effective team management, it is critical to the success of the organization and the individual to understand how their effort supports goal achievement and positive outcomes. This is true at every level in the organization. From dishwasher to COO, we all have a role to play in the pursuit of the company mission and our effort will play a part in achieving success or falling short.
This training module will define and/or expound on the mission of the team/club and connect the dots for all team members to ensure everyone understands their role in the success of the organization. Managers will learn how to devolve the Why philosophy to their team members.
How To Deliver Effective Feedback
Humans demand feedback! It is part of our DNA. From birth, we know how to get what we need through feedback and through life, we perfect the art of pushing the right buttons to achieve results. Effective management entails pushing the right buttons through feedback but not all managers understand how that works. In this training module we will learn how to provide good feedback that either promotes continued performance or corrects performance to improve results while maintaining a healthy relationship throughout the process.
How And When To Discuss Compensation
We all want to make more money, right? Perhaps, but research tell us money is not the most important motivator for our staff. Regardless, it is important and very personal so any discussion of compensation should be handled carefully and with intention. In this training module we will learn how and when to discuss compensation, how to diffuse the emotion in the conversation and how to structure the conversation around a win-win scenario.
How To Define And Develop Goals That Produce Measurable Results
Goal setting is the cornerstone of performance management and yet, most managers never take the time to fully develop the goals necessary to improve the performance of the organization. In this training module we will learn about developing SMART goals and cascading goals for individual and team performance.
How To Set Expectation And Follow Through
It would be impossible for someone to meet or exceed your expectations if you are not certain what you expect yourself. In this module we will learn the 7 steps to setting expectation and review the process for establishing reasonable expectation for others.
